16 Mar Masters of None.
The Masters is cancelled and I am bummed… It’s hard to believe how much our worlds have changed in the last few days with the outbreak of Covid-19. Now keep in mind I do understand the severity of this situation and commend the PGA Tour for taking action and cancelling all events through the Valero Texas Open. Definitely unfortunate for us golf maniacs to miss the Players Championship and other regular tour events but man… THE MASTERS! The Masters has been a staple in my life since I was a kid. Every year Masters week represented that the off season was over and PEI golf season was here! That was usually the first time I would get out and chip around the back yard or take a walk with my 8 iron around Andersons Creek.
My first memories of watching the Masters are 1996 and Nick Faldo coming back from 6 shots down to beat Greg Norman. Things really kicked up a notch when the following year a young Tiger Woods runs away with his first green jacket leading the field by 12 strokes. Since then some of my favourite memories are: Phil’s approach from the pine straw on #13 in 2010, Tiger’s Chip in on the 16th hole in 2005, Adam Scott’s playoff win in 2013, Bubba Watson’s hook gap wedge from the woods on the 10th hole in the playoff, Sergio’s break through major win or how can we forget about Canada’s Mike Weir holding off Len Mattiace to win in 2003 becoming Canada’s first major winner! But my favourite Masters moment to date is last year when Tiger Woods made a classic Sunday charge to win his 15th major and first since 2005! What a moment that was! I still get goosebumps thinking of the Tiger chants as he left the 18th green with his family by his side!
So, until we can get more information and see what the coming days bring all we can do is sit on our couches, eat bologna and watch old Masters highlights…. https://www.youtube.com/user/masters
Stay safe and see you soon!
