05 Mar The Off-Season…How Do You Survive?
In my life there is only two seasons, golf & winter. The golf season is a busy one for me but it is also the most rewarding and fun season. I spend my golf season working at Andersons Creek, Green Gables, & Forest Hills golf courses. All three are operated by the golf division of Island Coastal Services. I have been with the company since 2003 when I was 15 years old. Working at a golf course is probably when my addiction and love for the game developed the most. There is nothing better than a beautiful day spent on the course. When I was younger it was all about getting better and trying to win some matches for a chocolate milk, but now in my 30s it’s an opportunity to get away from work and spend time with friends. Now we play for a drink in the clubhouse versus a chocolate milk haha.
Working in the golf industry a common question I get asked is “What do you do in the offseason?” Most people assume golf industry members are at home in their sweatpants watching the 1997 Masters highlights and eating bologna sandwiches. As appealing as that sounds, I spend most of the offseason in our winter offices in Charlottetown working on and planning for the upcoming season. The winter months are a great opportunity to get caught up and expand on new business ideas. This brings us to Golf Mania PEI. GMP is a project that we hope continues to grow. With over 10 events planned for 2020, a new look website, online store and newly branded clothing line we hope everyone can find something to enjoy Golf Mania PEI. We have partnered with Tee it up PEI as well who will be the Island Golf Lessons & Program hub.
Lots of more exciting information to come over the next 6 weeks! We can’t wait for spring as many of you are feeling the same way! So back to my original question, the offseason, how do you survive? I survive with Golf Mania PEI.
Cheers,
BK
